UNDER THE HOOD - SURF BOARD REPAIR

The moonlight over Bude was as sharp as a diamond, casting long, eerie shadows across the dunes as Tim and Jimmy hunched over Marion’s fabled surfboard. It wasn’t just a piece of fiberglass; it was a legend with a pedigree, a board that had tasted the salt of five continents. But as Tim ran a calloused thumb over the gel coat, his face went grim—the kind of grim usually reserved for James Bond discovering a ticking satchel charge.

"Wow," Jimmy whispered, the beam of his torch dancing over the surface. "Those score marks... they’re skewed."

"Skewed?" Tim huffed with the absurd seriousness of a pro-skater at a world final. "Jimmy, these aren't just scratches. These are aerodynamic sabotage. These grooves are angled to pull your mother toward the reef the second she drops into a bottom turn. Someone’s tried to steer her off course—literally."

The mystery was thickening faster than a Cornish clotted cream, but they didn't have much time before the dawn patrol hit the water.

"Wonder if we can repair them, Jimmy?" Tim muttered, sounding more like a worried pit-crew chief than a dad on holiday.

Suddenly, a metallic click-clack echoed through the salt air. Anthony, the AI Dinobot, tilted his head, his glowing ocular sensors cycling through a spectrum of investigative blues and purples.

"I may be able to help," Anthony chimed, his voice a mix of posh butler and high-tech laboratory. "But not here. We require the sanctuary of the surf shack. We need resins. We need shelter. And I require a stable power source for my more... esoteric functions."

"Why the shack, Antonius?" Jimmy asked, using the robot’s formal 'mission' name.

"Because, Jimmy," Anthony’s sensors pulsed rhythmically, "performing high-precision molecular bonding in a sand-laden gale is a recipe for a sub-par finish. And Marion Watson does not ride sub-par finishes."

The trio beat a retreat, wending their way through the tall marram grass like a team of paranormal investigators. Tim led the charge, almost at a trot. "Come on, hurry! We need to get this done and get at least two hours of shut-eye before Mum wakes up and starts her pre-surf yoga."

Back in the gloom of the shed, the atmosphere shifted. It felt less like a garage and more like the Batcave—or perhaps the Ghostbusters' firehouse. Tim hoisted the board onto a pair of rickety trestle tables.

"Stand aside, gentlemen," Anthony commanded.

With a sound like a tiny jet engine spooling up, a grid of green laser light erupted from Anthony’s eyes, scanning the board from nose to tail. A holographic map of the "injuries" flickered into existence in the dusty air above the workbench.

"Okay, Mr. Watson," the Dinobot barked. "Find me epoxy resin. Quick-set. Marine grade. Go!"

As Tim and Jimmy scrambled through the shelves, eventually unearthing a dusty but in-date tin, Anthony prepared his "surgical suite."

"Now, the heaters," Anthony directed.

Before Jimmy could even ask how a dinosaur robot knew how to fix a shortboard, a high-intensity laser skimmed the surface, "priming" the board with microscopic heat-bursts. Anthony then began to mix the resin with the terrifying precision of a master chemist. He applied the goo to the grooves, leaving a perfect, slightly convex overfill.

Jimmy watched, his jaw dropping. "I didn't program you for surfboard repair, Anthony. Where did this come from?"

Anthony’s mandibles clacked in what might have been a robotic smirk. "I watched seventeen YouTube tutorials and a masterclass on hydrodynamics while you were asleep in the car, Jimmy. Now, position those infra-red heaters. Aim the heads directly at the repair sites. We have exactly thirty minutes before the chemical bond reaches peak hardness."

The shed glowed with an eerie, orange light. While they waited, Anthony didn't just sit still; he hummed a low-frequency tone that seemed to vibrate the very air, keeping the dust from settling on the wet resin—a bit of "tech-magic" that looked suspiciously like a haunting.

Thirty minutes later, the "healing" began. Anthony’s laser wasn't just cutting now; it was sculpting. He skimmed the surface microscopically, the light dancing like a disco ball.

"What now?" Tim asked, shielding his eyes.

"He's re-shaping it, Dad," Jimmy realized, his eyes wide. "He's not just fixing the scratches."

"Correct, Jimmy," Anthony declared. "The board will now run straighter, faster, and hold a line better than the day it left the factory. I have also laser-welded the rear fin. It is now structurally one with the board."

The Dinobot stepped back, his battery light blinking yellow. "The rest is up to you. Polish. Wax. Make it look like nothing ever happened. The 'invisible' repair is the hallmark of the true professional."

Father and son fell upon the board with rags and polishing compound, working with a feverish, comedic intensity. When they finished, the board didn't just shine—it glowed.

"Look at that, Jimmy," Tim whispered, wiping sweat from his brow. "A total peach."

Jimmy lifted the board to move it back to the van. He stopped, confused. "It feels... lighter?"

"Aerospace-grade resin and molecular trimming," Anthony clacked his mandibles, wiggling his antennae in a celebratory dance. "She’ll feel like she’s riding on a cloud made of lightning."

They sneaked back to the VW Camper, moving like ninjas. Tim and Jimmy slid into their sleeping bags, out cold the moment their heads hit the pillows. Outside, Anthony hopped onto the roof, pulled a heavy tarpaulin over himself to look like an innocent pile of luggage, and powered down into sentry mode.

The board was ready. The mystery of who sabotaged it remained concealed from Marion, but as the first hint of Cornish dawn touched the horizon, one thing was certain: Marion Watson was about to have the ride of her life.

SEQUEL NOVEL TREATMENT - MISS OCEAN AND THE SUMMER OF SECRETS (A Watson Family Adventure)

OPENING: RETURN TO THE SEA - Setting the Tone. The novel opens with the Watson family preparing Miss Ocean, their beloved VW Bay Window T2 Volkswagen camper van, for a summer road trip. The Highlands adventure is behind them, but the sense of wonder lingers — especially with Anthony, the Magic Dinobot, now part of the family’s quiet routine.

Marion, once a champion surfer on the Atlantic coast, has been invited to judge the summer surf heats at: Widemouth Bay, Bude, and St Austell. She’s excited but modest — she hasn’t competed officially since Jimmy was born.

Family Dynamics - Tim, part‑time Army and MI6 general, is delighted for a break. Jimmy, now in his teens, is eager for adventure. As before, Anthony rides invisibly on the roof rack, scanning the world with quiet curiosity.

THE ROAD SOUTHWEST - The Journey. The Watsons travel through Devon and Cornwall, stopping at: Clifftop cafés, Secret coves, Surf shops, and Campsites where Miss Ocean draws admiring crowds. Due to her custom wheel arches, wide alloys and a special towbar. Anthony, in camouflage mode, occasionally spooks seagulls or scans the horizon for “anomalies,” much to Jimmy’s amusement.

Foreshadowing Trouble: At a surf meet‑and‑greet, Marion is recognised by older surfers — a legend returning to the waves.
This catches the attention of: Paul Lambert — ambitious, arrogant, technically skilled, and Sheelagh Brown — sharp, competitive, fiercely protective of their shared dream. They are the favourites to win the summer circuit.
Marion’s presence unsettles them.

THE FIRST COMPETITION — WIDEMOUTH BAY - Marion’s Unintentional Triumph. During a break in judging, Marion borrows a board “just for fun.” She catches a wave — and it’s spectacular. The crowd erupts. Phones record. Social media buzzes.

Paul and Sheelagh watch, horrified. Their confidence cracks.

The Invitation - The Competition Board, impressed, invites Marion to compete for an honorary cup — not part of the official rankings, but a prestigious nod. She accepts, reluctantly but graciously. Paul and Sheelagh exchange dark glances.

THE PLOT AGAINST MARION - Anthony Overhears. Late at night, Anthony — perched invisibly on Miss Ocean — overhears Paul and Sheelagh: plotting to sabotage Marion’s surfboard, planning to blackmail two judges, and discussing how “no one will beat us this year, not even some washed‑up legend.” Anthony records everything.

Jimmy and Tim Investigate - Anthony alerts Jimmy. Jimmy wakes Tim. Together, the three form a covert team: Jimmy gathers evidence, while Tim uses his MI6 training to follow leads. Anthony provides surveillance, disguises, and “ghostly” interventions, frightening Sheelagh Brown. As he walks invisibly, moving furniture about. She is freaked out. Paul does not believe her. This becomes a fun, family‑friendly espionage subplot.

THE SABOTAGE ATTEMPT - The Rigged Board. Paul and Sheelagh tamper with Marion’s board: loosening fins, adding micro‑abrasions, and weakening the leash. Anthony catches them in the act — appearing as a shimmering, ghost‑like figure. They flee in terror. Jimmy and Tim fix the board before Marion ever sees it.

THE COMPETITION — BUDE - Marion’s Performance. Marion surfs beautifully — not to win, but to honour the sport she loves. Paul and Sheelagh surf well too, but their nerves show.

The Blackmail Unravels. Anthony projects the recorded conversation to the judges’ tent. The judges are stunned. The Competition Board convenes an emergency meeting. Paul and Sheelagh are disqualified.

THE CONFRONTATION - Marion’s Heartfelt Speech. Marion confronts the pair — not with anger, but with disappointment.

“You didn’t need to cheat. You’re talented. Train harder. Improve your wave strategy. Earn your victories — don’t steal them.”

Paul and Sheelagh break down. They apologise publicly — to Marion, to the judges, to the crowd. "What were we thinking. Miss Ocean here, is our new role model. Marion is still super fit for her age. Due to her good diet and work ethic.

Redemption: Marion persuades the Board to reinstate them for future competitions, provided they: apologise, attend ethics training, and accept a probationary period. The crowd applauds her grace.

THE FINALE — CAMPERFEST IN BUDE. Miss Ocean Takes the Stage. Tim enters the 'Miss Ocean' VW in the Camperfest competition: polished chrome, custom surf rack, upgraded engine, also giving a demonstration of improved handling from a wider tracks. The van is named after Marion's surfing competition name. The van is though, the epitome of all that is surfing and camping.

Anthony’s invisible “touches” (subtle lighting, perfect tuning) add to the overall betterment of the design. They win Best Modified Vehicle. Marion is touched, Tim also, his hard work has paid off.

Jimmy beams. Marion laughs. Tim holds the trophy like a proud father.

EPILOGUE — THE ROAD HOME - A Sussex Sunset. The Watsons drive back to Herstmonceux, trophy on the dashboard, surfboards rattling softly in the wind. Anthony hums quietly, replaying the sound of waves. Jimmy leans out the window, hair whipping in the wind. “Where to next Mum?” Says Jimmy. Marion and Tim exchange a smile. “Wherever the road takes us.” Replies Tim.
