Fictionally, Sophie Smith works at Tesco superstore in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

Her fictional boss is Derek Dillinger, the manager at this food market, who gets Sophie so angry, that she decides to quit. Sophie enjoyed her time working with her friends and helping customers. She gained a lot of valuable experience of life and practical business skills and discipline. Also, the values of some of her customers.

Although Derek tells Sophie to go home at a point in time when she had a number of other personal disappointments, she is recalled and continues to flourish, meeting her best friend Phoebe Pratt, who turns out to be a marketing genius, who also learned a great deal from her time with Tesco.

Derek, reveals that she was well liked by her customers, and that he appreciated her communication skills. Especially after a number of customers praised her.

Derek makes Sophie an employee with "Heart." With a big leaving party. Writing to head office, that she lifted the spirits of her co-workers, and himself. Sophie returns to Tesco from time to time, and shops there often.
